An Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Tailings Dam with Geotextile Bags

Abstract: The friction performance and compression properties of geotextile bags under different degrees of consolidation are researched through the slope sliding test, direct shear test, and unconfined compression test in this study. The geotextile bags are made up of geotextile and tailings sands obtained from a construction site of a prototype tailings dam in Yunnan Province. The slope sliding test is considered as an easy method to study the friction performance of geotextile bags with different degrees of consolida… Show more

“…Zhou et al 19 studied tailing-geotextile composites, analyzed their permeability and physical properties, and generalized the composite model. Li et al 20 established a stability analysis method based on limit equilibrium theory to simulate the stability of tailings dams using geotextile bags. Zheng et al 21 used basalt fiber to reinforce a tailings dam and improved its stability.…”

“…Soilbags are advantageous for treating solid waste 13 , 14 . Currently, they are widely used in slope protection 15 , 16 , scour control 17 , riverbank protection 18 , waste treatment 19 , foundation treatment 20 – 22 , retaining walls 23 25 , road engineering 26 , 27 , and tailing dams 28 30 . To realize the resourceful use of soilbags filled with graphite tailings, their load-bearing and deformation characteristics must be fully understood.…”

“…The composition of the particle size distribution has a significant impact on the collapse morphology of the dam after failure. An experimental and theoretical study with the Tailings Dam with Geotextile Bag (TDGB) was carried out using the stability analysis method based on the limit equilibrium theory of tailings dams [33]. With respect to the test and analysis results, TDGB has displayed enhanced stability compared to the general tailings dam.…”
