An Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Performance, Combustion and Emission Characteristics of a Diesel Engine Fueled with Jatropha Biodiesel

Abstract: The effect of addition of jatropha biodiesel to mineral diesel on the performance and emission characteristics of a conventional compression ignition engine have been experimentally investigated and compared with simulated data using Diesel-RK software. The experiments were carried out using pure diesel (B0) and pure jatropha biodiesel (JB100) as fuels. The performance characteristics shows that brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) increases and brake thermal efficiency decreases with the use of jatropha bio… Show more

“…In this context, researchers, scientists, and engineers have come up with various alternate sources of fuel among which biodiesel is a viable substitute that can perhaps reduce the complexity of energy crisis to some coverage. It was proved by scientists that the characteristics of biodiesel are similar to the diesel fuel and can be used as its prominent substitute [6,7].…”

“…The performance qualities show that brake particular fuel utilization (BSFC) increments and brake thermal efficiency diminishes with the utilization of Jatropha biodiesel. Burning characteristic show an expansion in pinnacle cylinder pressure and an abatement in start postpone period with the expansion in biodiesel partakes in the mixes; though the outflow of NOx and CO 2 expands smoke [12].…”
