We analyze the performance of a piezoelectric bimorph in the flexural mode for scavenging ambient vibration energy and evaluate the dependence of the performance upon the physical and geometrical parameters of the model bimorph. The analytical solution for the flexural motion of the piezoelectric bimorph shows that the output power density increases initially, reaches a maximum, and then decreases monotonically with increasing load impedance, which is normalized by a parameter that is a simple combination of the physical and geometrical parameters of the scavenging structure, the bimorph, and the frequency of the ambient vibration, underscoring the importance for the load circuit to have the impedance desirable by the scavenging structure. The numerical results illustrate the considerably enhanced performances achieved by adjusting the physical and geometrical parameters of the scavenging structure.

We review theoretical results on anti-plane motions of polarized ceramics based on the linear theory of piezoelectricity. Solutions to dynamic problems of the propagation of bulk acoustic waves (BAW) and surface acoustic waves (SAW), vibrations of finite bodies, and applications to various piezoelectric devices including piezoelectric waveguides, resonators, mass sensors, fluid sensors, actuators, nondestructive evaluation, power harvesters (generators), transformers, and power transmission through an elastic wall by acoustic waves are discussed. Complications due to material inhomogeneity, initial stress, electromagnetic coupling, electric field gradient and semiconduction are also discussed. The paper cites 82 references.

Urushiol‐titanium chelate polymer (UTP), the reaction product of urushiol with titanium compound, has been used as a heavy anti‐corrosive coating in chemical industries in China. UTP could not be made into regular honeycomb‐porous film just using breath figures, whereas that could be done with the incorporation of hydroxylated multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). MWCNT showed significant influences on the formation of highly ordered microporous films. The preparation conditions also affected the honeycomb structure of films and then exhibited different morphologies. The results measured from energy dispersive X‐ray spectra showed that the content of oxygen around the hole of UTP/MWCNT microporous film was higher than that on the wall of the hole. Moreover, UTP/MWCNT microporous film had excellent acid, alkali, and organic solvent resistance properties. POLYM. COMPOS., 36:1884–1890, 2015. © 2014 Society of Plastics Engineers
