The impact of COVID-19 and the racial awakening of the United States intensified the inequities already present in many K–12 schools. Authors report a practitioner-focused case study of a high school counseling department integrating multitiered systems of support (MTSS) into their comprehensive school counseling program during the 2020–2021 school year, in response to both a global pandemic and the racial justice movement. Authors describe school counselors’ passionate commitment to supporting the school and department goal of increased graduation rate for the graduating class of 2021 in the midst of navigating virtual learning, racial and ethnic disparities, and lack of resources.

The Impact of Reading Interest and Learning Habits on Students' Achievement for Integrated Science Learning

The objective of this study is to determine 1) how reading interest affects students' integrated science learning achievement. 2) The impact of students' learning behaviors on their science learning achievement 3) Effects of students' reading preferences and study practices on their integrated science learning achievement. This study is an example of correlational ex post facto research. The population of this study consisted of all students, totaling 470, from whom a sample of 150 was drawn using stratified random sampling methods. Questionnaires and documentation are used in the data retrieval approach. Regression analysis is the method of data analysis used. Results indicate that 1) reading interest has a significant impact on students' integrated science learning achievement, with a value of 0.000 (0.05), and that reading interest contributes relatively to 36.5% of students' integrated science learning achievement. 2) There is a substantial relationship between learning habits and students' integrated science learning achievement, with a significance level of 0.000 (p 0.05) and a relative contribution of 16.2% from learning habits. 3) With a value of 0.000 significance (0.05), there is a significant relationship between reading interest and learning habits and the achievement of integrated science learning students. Together, these two factors account for 36.5% of the students' integrated science learning achievement.

Kenya's government has faced community pressure to enhance service performance. Service delivery has not improved due to privatization, voluntary early retirement, or reorganization. Performance contracting was an option for decreasing service decreases, but only in partnership with Huduma Centres. According to a 2020 Government report, the Centres serviced less than 30,000 customers daily and earned around Kshs 12 billion in revenue. Previous studies on performance contracting were mostly case studies rather than surveys. According to the literature, performance contracting affected service delivery, but Huduma Centres had a dwindling fortune requiring further study. The study's objective was to assess the effect of performance contracting on service delivery. A correlational survey design was used in the study. The target population consisted of 276 workers. The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire, and data was analysed descriptively and using regression analysis. The results revealed that performance contracting increased service delivery by 60.1% or R2=0.601. The study recommends that attention be paid to all the stages in performance contracting to enhance service delivery, and pieces of training and incentives are crucial to performance contracting. The policymakers now know from the study that incentives, goal setting, and performance monitoring are critical to service delivery.
