An evaluation test bed for enhanced vision

Abstract: DLR's Institute of Flight Guidance is involved in many projects dealing with the development of new concepts for flight procedures and pilot assistance functions. This includes especially the topic of enhanced vision (EVS), where processed data from radar and infrared sensors is utilized to augment the pilot's vision. For evaluating these concepts extensive flight testing has been conducted and results have been published during the last years. Now, DLR has combined its expertise in the field of high performan… Show more

“…Finally, the fourth purpose considers the presentation of communalities concerning fixed and rotary wing applications. In AVATAR, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) simulates sensor data using the Flexible Sensor Simulation Suite (F3S) 3 and implements a fusion of sensor data with georeferenced data from an industrial database management platform. Consecutively, DLR is going to implement and evaluate enhanced and visual conformal display systems for offshore rotary wing aircraft.…”

“…15 One of the core components is its in-house developed test bed for ESVS applications. 16 These have been examined in headdown, as well as head-up 17 and head-worn implementations. One of the earlier devices that was used for this was the Microvision Nomad HMD.…”
