Despite emerging evidence from research studies showing positive influence of computer based learning on quality of education and academic achievement of learners, there is very limited research studies that synthesises factors that influence or contributes to the success or effectiveness of computer based learning methods. The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesise factors that influences the efficacy of computer based learning. We followed the protocol from preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). Major electronic educational databases were searched. In total, 20 studies that met inclusion criteria were reviewed in this study. After completing thematic analysis of the included studies, findings revealed that students’ characteristics factor such as attitudes, self-discipline, prior knowledge of computer use and motivation, also infrastructure factor such as easy access to computer and availability of technology influenced the efficacy of Computer Based Learning. Recommendations from the research reports are discussed.

Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai pengembangan sistem perkuliahan berbasis TIK untuk meningkatkan kebermaknaan belajar mahasaiswa biologi. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental terhadap 80 orang mahasiswa calon guru biologi peserta kuliah genetika yang dicuplik secara acak dari total mahasiswa 156 orang. Untuk keperluan tersebut sampel penelitian dibagi ke dalam dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dengan jumlah mahasiswa untuk masing-masing kelompok 40 orang. Kelompok eksperimen mengikuti perkuliahan genetika melalui sistem perkuliahan berbais TIK (GeneTIK) sedangkan kelompok kontrol mengikuti perkuliahan tatap muka reguler. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para mahasiswa yang mengikuti perkuliahan melalui GeneTIK belajarnya lebih baik dibandingkan dengan yang mengikuti perkuliahan secara regular. GeneTIK juga dapat meningkatkan kebermaknaan belajar mahasiswa berdasarkan perhitungan rata-rata N-gain 0,3218 (±0,21) untuk kelompok eksperimen dan 0,2385 (±0,16) untuk kelompok kontrol.Kata kunci: Genetika, GeneTIK, Kebermaknaan belajar

It is not what is taught that has the most influence on students' study behaviour, but rather what is assessed. Computer-assisted assessment offers the possibility of widening the scope of the material that is assessed, without placing excessive burdens on either staff or students. This article describes a computer-assisted assessment scheme comprising frequent, short, focused online assessmentstermed "Microassessment". It was designed and implemented with the primary aim of increasing the time students spent engaging with the learning activities of a module which was the second in a series of three introductory human anatomy and physiology modules. The impact of the introduction of the microassessments was evaluated by comparing results in the written end of module exam with the exam performance in the other two modules, where the continuous assessment tasks involved submitting completed workbooks at the end of each of the modules. The introduction of the microassessments resulted in a demonstrable improvement in the end of module exam performance and provides evidence in support of this specific pattern of continuous assessment as having a significant impact on student learning.
