Resumo. O projeto ótimo de um sistema de poligeração pode ser obtido a partir de informações sobre as demandas energéticas do centro consumidor, baseando-se nas características técnicas dos equipamentos e nos recursos energéticos disponíveis. O projeto ótimo compreende tanto a configuração ótima do sistema a ser instalado quanto o modo ótimo de operação ao longo do ano, considerando os fluxos de energia a preços de mercado e utilizando a capacidade produtiva dos equipamentos instalados. O modelo de otimização compara os balanços econômicos anuais para todas as configurações viáveis do sistema através de uma superestrutura de poligeração. Aqui se considerou um hospital localizado em João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brasil. Os serviços energéticos considerados foram eletricidade, calor (água quente: uso direto e lavanderia), vapor (esterilização), e refrigeração (ar-condicionado). Equipamentos comerciais foram considerados, desde os mais convencionais (grupo gerador a diesel) até os menos usuais (máquina de refrigeração por absorção), e recursos energéticos renováveis foram incluídos na forma de biomassa e energia solar. Minimiza-se uma função objetivo, sempre atendendo às demandas de energia do centro consumidor. O projeto ótimo é obtido como resultado da solução de um modelo de programação linear inteira, no qual a função objetivo foi o custo anual (R$/ano). Para o cenário atual definido em João Pessoa, a solução ótima incluiu a utilização de biomassa como recurso energético, além da instalação de 284 coletores solares para a produção de água quente, resultando numa economia anual de R$ 146.867 em comparação a um sistema tradicional. Observou-se que uma estratégia de investimentos que permita amortizações lentas incentivará o uso de coletores solares e biomassa, com grandes investimentos em equipamentos, mas com benefícios maiores em longo prazo.
