“…Additionally, tests based on the partially purified lipoproteins antigen B (AgB) and antigen 5 (both found in the germinal membrane, protoscolex parenchyma and cyst fluid [36]) are used either in ELISA or immunoblot assays. The major drawback of these tests is the lack of species specificity, as cross-reactions between AE and CE and many other helminthic infections are commonly observed (cestodes, 89%; nematodes, 39%; trematodes; 30%) [5,20,[37][38][39][40]. Assays based on a recombinant subunit of AgB, denoted rAgB8/2, showed sensitivities of 45-93% and specificities of 86-99% with the same cross-reactions as mentioned above [20,41,42].…”

“…An average of 120 subjects (range, 60-180 subjects) were examined per day, typically screened over the course of 8-12 * ass. ϭ associated with a positive serology using EmC, Em2, or both; Eg ϭ Echinococcus granulosus crude antigen (hydatid fluid); EmP ϭ Echinococcus multilocularis protoscolex purified antigen, according to Craig and others 6 ; Em2 ϭ Echinococcus multilocularis purified specific antigen, according to Gottstein and others 7 ; EmC ϭ Echinococcus multilocularis crude antigen.…”

“…Epidemiological and ecological studies have been carried on since the 1980s in the Jura Mountains, France (Delattre, Pascal & Damange, 1985 ;Delattre et al 1988 ;Delattre, Giraudoux & Quere, 1990 ;Giraudoux, 1991 ;Bresson-Hadni et al 1994 ;Viel et al 1999 ;Raoul, 2001), and in Southern Gansu, China (Craig et al 1992 ;Giraudoux et al 1998 ;Courant et al 1999 ;Craig et al 2000). The present paper analyses and compares results obtained in both regions and suggests that at the regional scale landscape can affect human disease distribution through interaction with small mammal communities and their population dynamics.…”
