An Energy-Related CityGML ADE and Its Application for Heating Demand Calculation

Abstract: Different associated properties of city models like building geometries, building energy systems, building end uses, and building occupant behavior are usually saved in different data formats and are obtained from different data sources. Experience has shown that the integration of these data sets for the purpose of energy simulation on city scale is often cumbersome and error prone. A new application domain extension for CityGML has been developed in order to integrate energy-related figures of buildings, the… Show more

“…Further research and development could be done to insert the third dimension in terms of digital elevation models (DEM) and 3D building models (BIM) to get a better visualization of the renovation area throughout the time. With regard to climate protection measures in urban surroundings, the third dimension could help to calculate the potential of regenerative energy such as solar or photovoltaic on building or landscape surfaces and optimize the already installed facilities (Bruse et al 2015, Coors et al 2016).…”

“…The model is flexible, taking into account different levels of detail (LODs), and it is modular foreseeing the potential coupling of Energy ADE with other ADEs. The Energy ADE is supported by several implementations and studies [15,[17][18][19], and it is established both in an XSD schema and UML class diagram (Fig. 4).…”

“…Often these errors are not visible at the scale the datasets are visualised [18], and, as a consequence, practitioners are not aware of the problem. In most cases, these errors prevent us from using the datasets in other software and applications, see Nouvel et al [21], Steuer et al [28], and Bruse et al [8] for concrete examples. However, it should be noticed that, even for visualisation purposes, errors can be problematic since the shading/colouring of surfaces is often based on the orientation of their normals.…”
