An Energy Based Critical Plane Approach to Multiaxial Fatigue Analysis

Abstract: A multiaxial fatigue damage criterion has been formulated based on observations that fatigue crack development is governed by stresses and strains acting on critical planes in materials. The damage parameter incorporates both Mode I and Mode II loading. Failure is defined as the development of an engineering size crack (approximately 1 mm in surface length). The proposed method can be applied to both proportional and nonproportional multiaxial loading as well as to uniaxial loading. Predictions based on the pr… Show more

“…4.6. Rolovic andtipton criterion (1999) (rolovic andtipton, 1999) Rolovic and Tipton proposed a criterion for multiaxial cyclic proportional and nonproportional fatigue loading including the mean value of normal stress. The criterion in general way is written as follows τ ns,a + f 1 (σ n,max ) γ ns,a + σ n,a + f 2 (σ n,max ) ε n,a = f 3 (N f ).…”
