High-pressure packer test (HPPT) is an enhanced constant head packer test for characterizing the permeability of fractured rocks under high-pressure groundwater flow conditions. The interpretation of the HPPT data, however, remains difficult due to the transition of flow conditions in the conducting structures and the hydraulic fracturing-induced permeability enhancement in the tested rocks. In this study, a number of HPPTs were performed in the sedimentary and intrusive rocks located at 450 m depth in central Hainan Island. The obtained Q-P curves were divided into a laminar flow phase (I), a non-Darcy flow phase (II), and a hydraulic fracturing phase (III). The critical Reynolds number for the deviation of flow from linearity into phase II was 25266. The flow of phase III occurred in sparsely to moderately fractured rocks, and was absent at the test intervals of perfect or poor intactness. The threshold fluid pressure between phases II and III was correlated with RQD and the confining stress. An Izbash's law-based analytical model was employed to calculate the hydraulic conductivity of the tested rocks in different flow conditions. It was demonstrated that the estimated hydraulic conductivity values in phases I and II are basically the same, and are weakly dependent on the injection fluid pressure, but it becomes strongly pressure dependent as a result of hydraulic fracturing in phase III. The hydraulic conductivity at different test intervals of a borehole is remarkably enhanced at highly fractured zone or contact zone, but within a rock unit of weak heterogeneity, it decreases with the increase of depth. Coal mine water inrush has an impartible relationship with the fracture zone such as faults, which deeply threaten the safety production in China. In order to study the water seepage behavior in the fault and the impermeability of the fault when water inrush through fault occurs, some water inrush cases through faults were analyzed, and water injection tests which drilled one injection borehole and one observation borehole into the fault zone were carried out at one coal mine. The breakdown pressure, reopening pressure, as well as the initial water seepage pressure, impermeability and the initial hydraulic conductivity of Puzizhier fault, were obtained from the result of the water injection tests. The study shows that water seepage in faults goes through three stages which consist of pore flow, fracture flow and pipe flow. It shows a process of the fine particulates and existing in-fill in the fault zone washing out and original and newborn cracks expanding and connecting. The results of water injection tests can be thought to show the fault healing effect under the underground pressure. In addition, the risk of water inrush through faults owes a great deal to the characteristic of water source. ARTICLE INFO

Drawing from the lessons learnt from the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, the assessment of subsurface environmental hazard around nuclear power plants has emerged as a critical task. Consequently, aiming to better understand the possible environmental impact of radiation leaks into the groundwater, a prescreening programme was initiated in 2011 by the Taiwanese government. As part of this programme, this study conducted various borehole prospecting techniques to identify in situ hydrogeological characteristics at Chin‐Shan Nuclear Power Plant. Borehole electrical log, sonic log and temperature/conductivity log were conducted to explain the regional lithologic conditions and permeability of the formation. In conjunction with this, the interwell tracer and pumping test was carried out to simultaneously determine the hydraulic parameters. In our opinion, the implementation of such in situ end‐to‐end investigations is essential in interpreting in situ fluid and solute transport dynamics prior to programming any numerical scheme for early warning, vulnerability assessment and regular monitoring of a nuclear power plant site.
