An emerging adsorption technology and its applicability on trees as an adsorbent for the remediation of water pollution: A review

Abstract: Wastewater pollution and its treatment is an ever-increasing concern in the century because of the higher industrialization and urbanization. The expansion of industries is the leading cause of polluting water resources. A discharge from industries contains various organic and inorganic pollutants. The heavy metals which are mostly discharged from the industries include Zinc (Zn), Arsenic (As), Nickel (Ni), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Copper (Co), Chromium (Cr), and Lead (Pb). These metals are toxic to human h… Show more

“…Due to their large leaf surface area, plants reduce the amount of air pollutants in the environment by impinging, absorbing, and accumulating (Darro et al, 2022;Escobedo et al, 2008) them. An effective method for assessing the effects of air pollution is through the bio monitoring of plants (Bakiyaraj and Ayyappan, 2014;Kamesh et al, 2023). Although leaves are the most vulnerable portion of plants to air pollution, they undergo physiological changes before showing obvious harm to their leaves.…”

“…The water pH is altered through electrolysis, or the splitting of the water molecule into hydrogen and hydroxide ions with an electric current. The pH of water indicates its acidity and basicity, and the scale of pH is <7.0 for acidic, 7.0 for neutral, and >7.0 for salinity or alkanity [59,60]. It detects the ratio of free hydroxyl and hydrogen ions present in water.…”

“…Quality of water influenced human health [3,62,63,64,65]. Inappropriate uses and unsustainable waste management techniques are causing the water quality to worsen in cities [4,5,6,59]. The trouble is getting dangerous because water treatment is either nonexistent or insufficient.…”
