An Elegy to Rangaeris, Including a Description of Two New Genera in the Cyrtorchis–Tridactyle Clade (Orchidaceae, Angraecinae)

Abstract: The phylogenetic position of Rangaeris (Schltr.) Summerh. has been one of the most problematic issues of angraecoid orchid taxonomy. A recently published phylogenetic tree with nearly comprehensive taxon sampling of African angraecoid orchids suggested that this genus was polyphyletic, as its species appear nested within different subclades of the Cyrtorchis–Tridactyle clade. However, the lack of DNA data for the generic type, R. muscicola (Rchb. f.) Summerh., and for the little-known species R. longicaudata (… Show more

“…Where possible, at least two specimens from each of the morphogroups included in the morphometric analysis were chosen for the phylogenetic study. Additional sequences produced during previous studies and available in GenBank (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank) were also used (Carlsward & al., 2006a,b; Simo‐Droissart & al., 2018a; D'haijère & al., 2019; Farminhão & al., 2020). Sixty‐nine Cyrtorchis accessions representing 21 morphogroups including 15 described taxa (7 out of 9 from C .…”
