“…The PS/PVP electrospinning membrane used in the present study was prepared according to our previously published methods [ 11 ]. Briefly, 15.8% (wt/vol) PS (Mw ∼280 000) and 9% (wt/vol) PVP (Mw ∼1,300 000) were dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) to prepare the electrospun solution, and the ratio of PS to PVP is about 1.75, which was used in each experiment.…”

“…Electrospinning is a handy and cost-effective technique for producing nanowebs where the fiber diameters range from a few hundred nanometers to a few microns [ 10 ]. Electrospun fibrous membranes whose physical properties can be modified by altering the structure, composition, morphology and porosity of electrospun materials under controlled conditions are characterized by high specific surface areas, porous structures and easy surface functionalization with various groups [ 11 ]. Based on the characteristics mentioned above, electrospun nanofibers have been widely studied in the biomedical field, including delivery of drugs, cell scaffolds, hemostasis, wound healing and tissue engineering [ 12–14 ].…”

“…67 In addition to antimicrobial properties, ESNs have also been used as pH indicators to perform a caries indication function. Niu et al 68 presented a polystyrene/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PS/PVP) electrospun fibrous membrane with the acid-base indication effect through bromocresol green (BCG). It was able to accurately distinguish and indicate pH 5.5 environments with higher sensitivity than normal pH test paper, and was thus able to visualize the critical pH for tooth demineralization.…”

“…Garcinia mangostana (GM) extract incorporated electrospun chitosan and thiolated chitosan (TCS) nanofiber mats were employed to prevent dental caries by adhering to the buccal mucosa, the antibacterial mats could reduce oral bacteria in the oral cavity without cytotoxicity [ 61 ]. In addition to using antibacterial fiber membranes to prevent dental caries, electrospun nanofibers can also be fabricated into pH-responsive sensors for early-onset caries monitoring, the bromocresol green-polystyrene/polyvinylpyrrolidone (BCG–PS/PVP) fibrous membrane can be used to evaluate the cariogenic risk of clinical dental plaque samples by visualizing the critical pH point of 5.5, which value can induce tooth demineralization [ 17 ].…”

“…In the beginning, nanomaterials were used as nanoparticles in toothpaste, mouthwashes, composite resins, and adhesives [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ]. As the technology develops, more nanomaterials have been used in different aspects of dentistry, including disease testing, cell differentiation induction, and dental implants [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ]. Among the many types of nanomaterials, nanofibers played a significant role due to their high porosity and specific surface area.…”
