An Electromagnetic Force Theorem for Quasi-stationary Currents

Abstract: SummaryIt is shown that the time-averaged magnetic forces produced in a system excited by quasi-stationary currents may be expressed in terms of derivatives of effective inductance parameters in a manner similar to that of magnetostatics. Practical applications of the theorem include electromagnetic levitation, the absolute calibration of electrical measuring instruments, and the assessment of mechanical stresses in magnet assemblies.
