An electrochemical study of pH influences on corrosion and passivation for a Q235 carbon steel in HNO3–NaNO2, HAc–NaNO2and HCl–NaNO2solutions

Abstract: In this study, the influences of different pH values on the corrosion and passivation behaviors of a Q235 carbon steel in HNO3–NaNO2, HAc–NaNO2 and HCl–NaNO2 solutions were studied by electrochemical methods.

“…The decrease in the capacity value could be due to the adsorption of the C1, C2, and C3 which protect the metal surface. 63 The time constant values, s, obtained by eqn (5) in the presence of C1, C2, and C3 were found to be higher than those found in the blank solution.…”

“…The influence of pH values on electrochemical defluorination is significant. 26 As natural water bodies typically exhibit weak alkalinity, the impact of pH (6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0) on defluorination efficiency was investigated, as shown in Fig. 3b .…”

“…One thing needs to mention that because of avoiding the occurrence of localized corrosion, the electrochemical measurements of bare and coated MAs are usually carried out in the borate buffer solution composed of 0.93 g/L H 2 BO 4 and 9.86 g/L Na 2 B 4 O 7 (Kouisni et al , 2005; Li et al , 2010; Fajardo et al , 2018); for immersion measurement, because of its relatively long time period, the use of an electrolyte environment solution containing aggressive species is appropriate, rather than the H 2 BO 4 +Na 2 B 4 O 7 . However, the presence of aggressive species may induce the occurrence of localized corrosion (Zhou et al , 2019d); Li et al , 2019).…”
