An Electrochemical Sensor for Trimethoprim Based on a Magnetic Molecularly Imprinted Carbon Paste Electrode

Peng Liu,
Ruiying Zhang,
Liyan Zheng
et al.

Abstract: In order to achieve simple, rapid, and highly sensitive detection of trimethoprim (TMP), a magnetic molecularly imprinted carbon paste electrode (MCPE) was prepared by drop-coating magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP@Fe3O4@MWNTs) on the surface of reduction graphene oxide (rGO)/MCPE doped with Fe3O4@MWNTs. The introduction of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and rGO served as dual signal-amplification materials, which can improve the response sensitivity of the sensor. In addition, the magnetic in… Show more

“…TMT and SMX are broad-spectrum antimicrobial drugs that are usually used to treat meningitis, digestive and respiratory tract infections as well as typhoid. They are commonly used for dairy cows infection as well as used in aquaculture as a veterinary antimicrobial potentiator (Liu et al, 2023;Parshina et al, 2022). Dinali et al (2020) prepared MMIPs for the MSPE extraction of TMT and SMX extraction from bovine milk samples.…”

“…Other reported electrode modifi-cations for enhanced electrochemical signals include platinum nanoflowers with reduced graphene oxide [92] and a composite of iron oxide and polypyrrole and palladium [93]. In addition, multiple reports describe the use of molecularly imprinted polymers [73,[94][95][96].…”

“…A higher concentration of levofloxacin in the human body (the maximum limit was 100 ppb) has the potential to harm the kidneys and liver [97][98] . The electrochemical analysis of Trimethoprim using a magnetic molecularly imprinted carbon paste electrode (MCPE) based on Fe3O4, MWCNTs, and graphene oxide in order to improve the stability, selectivity, and reusability of the MCPEs was studied by Liu et al 99) . Modified CPEs using F3O4@MWCNTs increased the magnetic properties and electron conductivity of the MCPEs due to the increase in the redox peak.…”
