“…A variety of different radiation characteristics of EH 2 ‐mode LWA were also designed by loading different forms of slot 21 . With the help of periodic shorting pins, the fundamental mode (EH 0 ) can also produce leaky region and radiate dual‐beam 22,23 . Limited researches have been conducted to achieve dual‐band LWA based on MSL.…”

“…It exhibits a frequency-dependent steerable beam scanning under the first higher-order EH 1 mode of a microstrip line (MSL). Afterwards, a large number of researchers have been attracted to study and explore these MLWAs [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] for a variety of applications in Doppler radar, target tracking, cruise control, and collision avoidance system etc., due to their attractive features, inclusive of planar configuration, easy integration with other integrated circuits, and frequency-dependent beam-scanning ability.…”

“…As reported in [23,24], shunt inductive effect of shorting pins perturbing the field distribution beneath the patch has successfully enlarged the radiation area at resonance, resulting to improve the directivity of a single patch antenna. From this perspective, the periodical loading of shorting pins [9] could be similarly implemented in an EH 1mode MLWA to widen its electrical strip width under its transverse resonance. As such, the enlarged distance between two in-phase parallel magnetic-current line sources under the EH 1 -mode operation with widened strip width could facilitate us to effectively narrow the radiation beamwidth in the transverse plane for enhancement of radiation gain.…”

“…Luxey and Laheurte used a periodic capacitive loading for electronic beam steering and Archbold et al took this technique further by reporting a synthesizing scheme to calculate the edge capacitance needed for desired main beam positioning. Shunt inductor loading in the form of shorting vias were used in to make the EH 0 mode of the microstrip line radiate. Microstrip stubs along with electronic switches have been effectively used in for periodic reactive loading of leaky wave antenna design.…”
