An efficient routing protocol for wireless networks

Abstract: We present the wireless routing protocol WRP. In WRP, routing nodes communicate the distance and second-to-last hop for each destination. WRP reduces the number of cases in which a temporary routing loop can occur, which accounts for its fast convergence properties. A detailed proof of correctness is presented and its performance is compared by simulation with the performance of the distributed Bellman-Ford algorithm DBF, DUAL a loop-free distance-vector algorithm and an ideal link-state algorithm ILS, which r… Show more

“…Unlike PP+BTP, these protocols do not rely on the destination initiated sequence numbers in maintaining fresh loop-free routes. Examples include the Source Tree Adaptive Routing (STAR) [7], and the Wireless Routing Protocol (WRP) [19]. 4.…”

“…PFA and LV were both originally proposed for the Internet, but their ideas were later used to devise routing protocols in the MANET. The Wireless Routing Protocol (WRP) [37] was an early attempt to port the routing capabilities of LS routing protocols to MANETs. It is built on the same framework of the PFA for each node to use a tree to achieve loop-free routing.…”

“…Sequence numbers help mobile nodes distinguish obsolete routes from the new ones. The wireless routing protocol (WRP) [10] addresses asymmetric links and uses piggybacking for route information updates. This paper presents an approach to increasing communication capabilities in mobile ad hoc networks.…”

“…For example, DSDV [8], its extension CGSR [12], and WRP [10], are the most prominent members of the table-driven family of routing protocols. They all maintain tables with routing information for each pair of source-destination hosts.…”
