An efficient microprocessor-based pulse-width modulator using space vector modulation strategy

Abstract: Abskacf -Pulse width modulation using the space vector methodology in order to determine the switching instants of the PWM waveforms has been exploited. This scheme offers the extended output voltage capability of the PWM waveform. A microprocessor-based algorithm for PWM waveform generation using the SVM strategy is presented. This algorithm was implemented using an 80286-based PC to generate PWM waveforms in real-time. The characteristics of the PWM waveform, including its harmonic spectra obtained both from… Show more

“…They are variables in the rotor-fluxoriented reference frame, thus the block ejpr has to be used to transform them into the D-and Q-axis stator voltage components in the stationary reference frame. After that by using the SVPWM block, which is new technique and has some advantages compared with the normal PWM [7], the switching signals to command the power devices are obtained. It can be seen in the Fig.…”

“…At last by using the experimental results done with the hardware platform, the good steadydynamic performance of the variable-speed induction motor drive based on DSP2812 is proved. (2) And the stator and rotor flux-linkage voltage in the same reference frame can be expressed: /s =L is+Lmir (3) Y/r = L ir + Lm is (4) And the expression for electromagnetic torque equation in the same reference frame is: 'mr = VL =I+(1+r)ir (6) Lm Substitution of (3) into (1) yields the following stator voltage equation in the rotor-flux-oriented reference frame: dis + dir + USIS RjL~+L4ct4C rjCoLj+j~L (7) = UM + jUTs Because the rotor magnetizing-current space phasor is coaxial with the M-axis in the special frame fixed on the rotor flux, imr imr | the following equation is obtained: …”

“…where K pi and K ii are the proportional and integral gains, respectively, which are required to be tuned adequately for good regulation performance. A standard Space Vector PWM scheme (Zhang et al, 1994) is then used to determine the turn-on and turn-off times for inverter switches.…”

“…This implies that the harmonics caused by the various switching patterns of an inverter can be evaluated from the shape of the flux fish. To this end, the fish method is originally applied to analyze the harmonics in voltage space vector pulsewidth modulation (VSV-PWM) [6,7] the motor performance in VSV-PWM inverter is superior to that in S-PWM inverter. The results are also verified by the well-known total harmonic distortion (THD) [8][9][10] analysis.…”
