An efficient, compact pulsed D2O terahertz super-radiant laser pumped with a fundamental transverse mode transversely excited atmospheric pressure CO2 laser

Abstract: An efficient, compact pulsed D 2 O terahertz (THz) super-radiant laser pumped by a TEA (transversely excited atmospheric pressure) CO 2 laser is presented. The pulse energy of the THz laser has been discussed as a function of CO 2 laser pump energy, D 2 O gas pressure, and pump absorption. A pulse width of about 110 ns and the maximum pulse energy of about 1.3 mJ have been achieved at 385 µm, with pumping by a 378 mJ fundamental transverse mode TEA CO 2 laser, and the photon conversion efficiency of 29% has be… Show more

“…The ZnSe entrance window is initially inclined with respect to the cavity axis, so that the FIR pulses are only amplified in a single-pass process [11,12]; when the ZnSe entrance window is adjusted perpendicular to the cavity axis, the Bone reflection process^occurs, indicating the FIR radiation may emit from the exit window together with those reflected once by the ZnSe entrance window. In these two processes, the normal of the crystal quartz exit window is kept inclined at about 3°with respect to the cavity axis to prevent multiple oscillations within the Fig.…”

“…At present, optically pumped far infrared lasers are operated in external-cavity pumped mode. It consists of two parts: the CO 2 pumped laser and THz laser generator [6,7] . In general, the laser intensity of pumped laser inside the cavity is much stronger than the intensity of the output laser, so operating in intracavity pumped mode is a good method to increase the pump laser power.…”
