Abstract:In this paper, an efficient method for the online identification of the photovoltaic single-diode model parameters is proposed. The combination of a genetic algorithm with explicit equations allows obtaining precise results without the direct measurement of short circuit current and open circuit voltage that is typically used in offline identification methods. Since the proposed method requires only voltage and current values close to the maximum power point, it can be easily integrated into any photovoltaic system, and it operates online without compromising the power production. The proposed approach has been implemented and tested on an embedded system, and it exhibits a good performance for monitoring/diagnosis applications.

Abstract:The exploitation of renewable energy sources and specifically photovoltaic (PV) devices have been showing significant growth; however, for a more effective development of this technology it is essential to have higher energy conversion performances. PV producers often declare a higher efficiency respect to real conditions and this deviation is mainly due to the difference between nominal and real temperature conditions of the PV. In order to improve the solar cell energy conversion efficiency many authors have proposed a methodology to keep the temperature of a PV system lower: a modified crystalline PV system built with a normal PV panel coupled with a Phase Change Material (PCM) heat storage device. In this paper a thermal model analysis of the crystalline PV-PCM system based on a theoretical study using finite difference approach is described. The authors developed an algorithm based on an explicit finite difference formulation of energy balance of the crystalline PV-PCM system. Two sets of recursive equations were developed for two types of spatial domains: a boundary domain and an internal domain. The reliability of the developed model is tested by a comparison with data coming from a test facility. The results of numerical simulations are in good agreement with experimental data.Keywords: phase change material; crystalline photovoltaic modules; heat storage; finite difference method; experimental validation

Abstract-The present work is aimed at developing thermal and electrical models which are capable of estimating the two dimensional thermal and electrical performance of a PV module under given meteorological conditions. The thermal modeling has been developed in COMSOL Multiphysics software environment and the electrical modeling has been carried out in PSIM software environment. The main objective of the electrical model is to investigate the I-V and P-V characteristics of an 80W thin film PV module with and without cooling at varying surface temperature and irradiation. In the thermal model, the dependence of module surface temperature, electrical efficiency, and thermal efficiency on water flow velocity is investigated. The results obtained from the proposed electrical and thermal models are validated experimentally. The results showed that the maximum electrical, thermal and net energy efficiency values of cooled PV module are 9.92%, 55.6%, and 65.4%, respectively. Variation of water flow velocity experiences no significant temperature change in the coolant water exiting the module and results in a slight change of both the module surface temperature and electrical efficiency.Index Terms-COMSOL software, cooling system, electrical model, PSIM software, PV module, and thermal model.
