An effective spherical panoramic LoD model for a mobile street view service

Abstract: Street view (panoramic view) services have begun to shift from PC platforms to mobile smart devices. Considering the capabilities of smart terminal devices, a 3608 spherical level of detail (LoD) model for mobile street view services that renders panoramic images on the inner surface of a sphere via LoD is proposed in this article. Panoramic images are segmented into tiles and organized in a pyramid tile structure for LoD rendering to improve the rendering efficiency of the proposed model. A projection model b… Show more

“…Therefore, there are few or one-sided studies in this field. The two most commonly used methods to improve the efficiency of remote sensing image data scheduling are spatial indexes [19][20][21][22] and tile pyramids [23][24][25]. In a spatial index, the two-dimensional plane is reduced to onedimensional coding by an index algorithm.…”

“…With the development of IoT technology and the large‐scale application of sensors (Xu, Du, et al, 2021), real‐time video and image data have grown rapidly, such as urban surveillance videos (Xie et al, 2017; Zhang, Shi, et al, 2021), vehicle‐mounted devices (Kim & Kwon, 2016), panoramic images (Liu et al, 2017), video GIS and Internet social platforms. It can make up for the lack of 3D model data currency and increase the dynamics of 3D scenes to combine real‐time videos with real 3D model data (Milosavljevic et al, 2016; Xie et al, 2019), which is also of great significance for improving the ability to perceive the real world in real time.…”
