An Effective Method for Wetland Park Health Assessment: a Case Study of the Guangdong Xinhui National Wetland Park in the Pearl River Delta, China

Abstract: The Guangdong Xinhui National Wetland Park (GXNWP) in the Pearl River Delta is an important stopover for migratory birds in China and East Asia. Due to high levels of interference, high sensitivity and fragile environmental constraints, an efficient method to assess the health status of wetland parks such as the GXNWP is urgently needed for sustainable development. In this study, we proposed a habitat-landscape-service (HLS) conceptual model that can be used at the site scale to evaluate health status in terms… Show more

“…With the increasing number of visitors to coastal villages, the role of tourism in economic development in the economic development of towns is becoming more and more important and obvious, and its advantages become more and more obvious over time [17]. Balancing the positive and negative impacts of rural tourism development will be the primary issue for coastal rural tourism communities to achieve sustainable development [18].…”

“…Given the significance of mulberry harvesting and fish farming densities in these fishponds [43][44][45], the production of mulberries and fish was chosen to characterize the PESs. Differences in temperature and humidity between the Mulberry-Dyke and Fish-Pond System and downtown Huzhou City as well as the air quality index of the Mulberry-Dyke and Fish-Pond System were used to characterize the climate regulation value of the RESs, and its basal environmental regulation capacity was flanked by pesticide and fertilizer use in the Mulberry-Dyke and Fish-Pond System, thus characterizing the basal environmental regulation value of the RESs [46][47][48][49]. CESs were characterized by 4 aspects: aesthetics, education, leisure and entertainment, and cultural heritage [50,51].…”

“…Some authors also used an expansion of AHP with fuzzy logic to account for the uncertainty of participants' evaluation in assessing ES. For example, Fang et al (2021) first used original AHP to derive the weights from 20 experts, and then let them grade the eco-health of the assessed wetland park. However, Saaty & Tran (2007) and Li et al (2018) warned about the invalidity of fuzzy AHP, that when the original judgements are good, there would be no gain, as in case of Park et al (2020), the judgements only varied slightly, and not at the high and low-weight groups.…”
