An effective category classification method based on a language model for question category recommendation on a cQA service

Abstract: Classiying user's question into several topics helps respondents answering the question in a cQA service. The word weighting method must estimate the appropriate weight of a word to improve the category (or topic) classification. In this paper, we propose a novel effective word weighting method based on a language model for automatic category classification in the cQA service. We first calculate the occurrence probability of a word in each category by using a language model and then the final weight of each wo… Show more

“…Other studies that utilized machine learning-based classifications can be mentioned such as Singh and Visweswariah (2011) and Bae and Ko (2012) that employed K-nearest neighbour (KNN) and support vector machine (SVM) respectively. Researches leveraged topic modelling for adaptive support is discussed in later sections.…”

“…(Brahami & Matta, 2018, p. 42-43) In order to increase the usability of these tools, it is also recommended to have features such as filtering, indexing, linking, sharing, categorization for fast and accurate search. (Zhang, Zhou & Nunamaker Jr, 2002, p .379-380;Huang, O'Dea & Mille, 2003, p. 2;Bae & Ko, 2012, p. 2255 However, all of the holistic knowledge management processes such as the identification and development of knowledge, storage, dissemination and sharing, renewal and cleaning cannot be provided with knowledge bases; using an knowledge management system in which all tools are centralized can help organizations in overall coordination. “…The performance of the question classification method is important for this model. Thus, we propose an effective question classification method based on a previous method (Bae & Ko, , ). In the proposed question classification method, we estimate the ratio of the occurrence probability of a word in a category to the occurrence probability of the word in other categories; this is called the ratio‐based word weighting (RW) method.…”
