Fatty acid vesicles are a kind of natural biological material, which have the advantages of good biocompatibility, low cost and easy self‐assembly in aqueous solution. However, vesicles formed of fatty acids have weak pH stability and thermostability, and poor divalent salt resistance, which limit their applications. In this work, the anionic surfactant sodium oleate and the polysaccharide carboxymethylcellulose sodium were mixed to form composite vesicles in a wide pH range, which can be close to the pH range of the physiological environment. The morphology of the composite vesicles was characterized using transmission electron microscopy and the particle size was determined by dynamic light scattering. Forces and aggregation behavior in the formation of the composite vesicles were investigated using surface tension and Fourier transform infrared observations combined with turbidity measurements. The composite vesicles were used to encapsulate nicotinamide. The encapsulation efficiency and sustained release behavior of nicotinamide loaded in the composite vesicles were evaluated. These results can provide theoretical guidance for the application of drug‐loaded vesicles in cosmetics. © 2021 Society of Industrial Chemistry.

To extract the features in first-order or secondorder signals, the two kinds of discrete Shmaliy moment (DSM) methods were proposed and applied to the quantitative analysis of multitarget compounds in complexes based on the UV−vis and high-performance liquid chromatography with pulsed amperometric detector (HPLC-PAD) spectra of samples for the first time. All the statistical parameters demonstrated that the obtained models were accurate and the established analytical methods were reliable, even in the presence of a different degree of overlapping signals as well as various interferences. Compared with Tchebichef moment (TM) and other classical methods such as multivariate curve resolution-alternating least-squares (MCR-ALS), partial least-squares (PLS) regression, and N-way partial least-squares (N-PLS), the proposed methods are more convenient and efficient, which not only provides another suitable tool for the quantitative analysis of multitarget components in complex samples but also extends the application of moment invariants in chemical signal analyses.

Cosmetic dermatology preparations such as bleaching agents are ingredients with skin‐related biological activities for increasing and improving skin beauty. The possibility of controlling skin hyperpigmentation disorders is one of the most important research goals in cosmetic preparations. Recently, cosmetics containing herbal and botanical ingredients have attracted many interests for consumers of cosmetic products because these preparations are found safer than other preparations with synthetic components. However, high‐quality trial studies in larger samples are needed to confirm safety and clinical efficacy of phytotherapeutic agents with high therapeutic index. Arbutin (p‐hydroxyphenyl‐β‐d‐glucopyranoside) is a bioactive hydrophilic polyphenol with two isomers including alpha‐arbutin (4‐hydroxyphenyl‐α‐glucopyranoside) and β‐arbutin (4‐hydroxyphenyl‐β‐glucopyranoside). It is used as a medicinal plant in phytopharmacy. Studies have shown that alpha‐arbutin is 10 times more effective than natural arbutin. A comparison of IC50 values showed that α‐arbutin (with concentration 2.0 mM) has a more potent inhibitory activity on human tyrosinase against natural arbutin (with higher concentration than 30 mM). A review of recent studies showed that arbutin could be beneficial in treatment of various diseases such as hyperpigmentation disorders, types of cancers, central nervous system disorders, osteoporosis, diabetes, etc. This study was designed to describe the therapeutic efficiencies of arbutin.
