O ambiente ruminal é composto por inúmeros microrganismos, onde cada um deles possui um papel fundamental no aproveitamento das dietas ingeridas pelos ruminantes, os fungos são seres unicelurares que atuam degradando as porções fibrosas dessa dieta. Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar a atividade celulolítica (AC) de fungos micelianos aeróbios provenientes do trato digestório de ovinos. Foram identificados e avaliados 38 isolados de fungos micelianos provenientes de borregos e ovelhas, após o reisolamento, amostras desses microrganismos foram inoculadas em meio C, contendo celulose microcristalina a 1% como única fonte de carbono e incubadas em estufa a 37 °C, em triplicata, por um período de três dias. As leituras da AC foram realizadas após 24, 48 e 72 horas de incubação. Foi adicionado solução contendo vermelho congo e após 15 minutos, as placas foram lavadas com 15 mL de solução 1M de NaCl. Os índices de AC foram calculados pela razão entre o halo de degradação de celulose e o halo da colônia. Dois isolados do gênero Aspergillus e um Trichoderma sp. apresentaram índice AC maior que um, apresentando bom crescimento ao utilizarem esse polissacarídeo com única fonte de carbono. Futuros estudos devem avaliar o potencial desses fungos como probióticos na alimentação de ruminantes ou para microbiologia industrial. Palavras-chave: Ovinos. Celulose. Trato digestório. Abstract The ruminal environment is composed of numerous microorganisms, each of which plays a fundamental role in the use of the diets ingested by ruminants, fungi are unicellular beings that act by degrading the fibrous portions of this diet. The objective of this study was to evaluate the cellulolytic activity (CA) of aerobic mycelial fungi from the digestive tract of sheep. Thirty-eight isolates of mycelial fungi from lambs and sheep were identified and evaluated, after re-isolation, samples of these microorganisms were inoculated in medium C, containing 1% microcrystalline cellulose as the only carbon source, and incubated in an oven at 37 °C, in triplicate, for a period of three days. AC readings were performed after 24, 48 and 72 hours of incubation. Solution containing congo red was added and after 15 minutes, the plates were washed with 15 mL of 1M NaCl solution. CA indices were calculated by the ratio between the cellulose degradation halo and the colony halo. Two isolates of the genus Aspergillus and one Trichoderma sp. showed CA index greater than one, showing good growth when using this polysaccharide as a single carbon source. Future studies should assess the potential of these fungi as probiotics in ruminant feed or for industrial microbiology. Keywords: Sheep. Cellulose. Digestive tract. North of Minas Gerais.

The genetic resources of local Indonesian sheep that must be protected and preserved include the Sapudi sheep and their crosses, which produce meat with highly adaptive and sigmoid fat tails. This study aims to determine the differences in the relationship between physiological status, morphology, and total protein of the single and twin ewe sheep and their crosses. The research method was a field study with quantitative and laboratory analysis, with statistical analysis using ANOVA and LSD with SPSS Statistic 9 software. The research design used descriptive with total sample of 60 heads (morphometry and physiological status) and 24 heads (total protein). There are three breeds of sheep: Sapudi, Dormas (Dormer x Sapudi), and Suffas (Suffolk x Sapudi). Sapudi, Dormas, and Suffas Ewes with only one child each lambing were abbreviated as SAS, DOS, and SUS. The ewe has twin lambs designated by SAT, DOT, and SUT abbreviations. The criteria for the sheep sampled were 2-3 years old, healthy condition (good activity), good appetite with feed given in the form of concentrate (2% of body weight), and forage (10% of body weight). The results showed that morphology, physiology, and total protein did not show a significant relationship (p>0.05) to differentiate broodstock in a single or twin brood in Sapudi sheep or their crosses, except for Suffas sheep. Total protein could show the difference between twin lambs having total protein > 6.36 g/dL and single lambs having total protein < 6.36 g/dL. The conclusion was that there was no relationship between physiological status, morphology, and total protein of the single and twin ewe in Sapudi sheep and their crosses, except for Suffas sheep. The ewes' activity in twin lambing was higher than in single lambing, indicated by the total protein concentration. This research implied that it was necessary to provide feed with a minimum crude protein content of 14.4% -24.22% since the beginning of pregnancy.

Background: Uttarakhand is a hilly state and a very little land is under cultivation but animal husbandry appears to be a good source of livelihood for farmers and sheep rearing is one of the major components of animal husbandry in Uttarakhand which help farmers to run their life. Sheep rearing is very much prevailing in hilly regions of the State. Aim: To find the socio-economic condition of the rearers. Methodology: A study was conducted in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. A total of 80 rearers were selected randomly from the Bhatwari block of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand and a pre structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the rearers. Respondents were classified into three categories on the basis of number of sheep viz. small (having less than 50 sheep), medium (between 50-100 sheep), and large (more than 100 sheep). Results: Study showed that small rearers have 46.86 average numbers of sheep whereas medium size rearers have 73.88 and large rearers have 258.52 average numbers of sheep. Out of which number of Ram were lowest. Most of the rearers were from 35-50 years of age group. 48.74 % of rearers had completed their primary education and 14.11% of rearers were illiterate. Majority of rearers (i.e., 68.75) were engaged with two occupations. On an average 57.48 % of rearers were OBCs (Other backward class) and 29.99 % were from tribal community(i.e.,Bhotiya). The average income of small, medium and large farm group is ₹53,440, ₹89,627 ₹1,96,802 respectively. Conclusion: It was concluded that there is need to eradicate the lack of awareness about the new technologies and educate the rearers about more efficient way of sheep rearing. With this women participation and youth should also be encouraged to involve in sheep rearing.
