An easy-to-use MATLAB program (MamLand) for the assessment of landslide susceptibility using a Mamdani fuzzy algorithm

Abstract: In this study, landslide susceptibility mapping using a completely expert opinion-based approach was applied for the Sinop (northern Turkey) region and its close vicinity. For this purpose, an easy-to-use program, "MamLand," was developed for the construction of a Mamdani fuzzy inference system and employed in MATLAB. Using this newly developed program, it is possible to construct a landslide susceptibility map based on expert opinion. In this study, seven conditioning parameters characterising topographical, … Show more

“…For instance, if the data distribution is close to normal, equal interval, or standard deviation, classifiers should be used. If the data distribution has a positive or negative skewness, the quantile or natural break distribution classifiers could be chosen (Akgun et al 2012). In this study, considering data distribution histogram, the quantile and natural break classifiers were applied to the data.…”

“…Confirmation should establish the quality (i.e., consistency, robustness, degree of fitting, and prediction skill) of the proposed susceptibility estimate (Yalcin et al 2011). In our study, validation of the susceptibility maps was checked by receiver operating characteristics (ROC) (Akgun et al 2012;Bui et al 2012;Ozdemir and Altural 2013). The ROC curve is a useful method for representing the quality of deterministic and probabilistic detection and forecast systems.…”

“…Although many methods for the composition of fuzzy relations (e.g., min-max, max-max, min-min, maxmin, etc.) are available in the literature, the max-min and max-product methods are the two most commonly used techniques [26]. Max-min composition is represented by Eq.…”
