An autophagy-related prognostic signature associated with immune microenvironment features of uveal melanoma

Abstract: Autophagy is involved in cancer initiation and progression but its role in uveal melanoma (UM) has rarely been investigated. Herein, we built an autophagy-related gene (ARG) risk model for UM patients using univariate Cox regression and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression model and filtered out 9 prognostic ARGs based on a cohort from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Survival and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of TCGA and four other independent UM cohorts (GSE22138, … Show more

“…This tumor is more common in adults, with a high degree of malignancy. The posterior pole of the eye is a predilection site, easy to transfer through blood flow, and the prognosis is poor [ 2 , 3 ]. The occurrence and development of UVM is a complex process involving multifactor, multistage, and multigene variation accumulation and interaction [ 4 ].…”

“…Other studies have reported variable gene signatures for predicting the OS of UM patients. The AUC of the ROC of the gene signature constructed by Xue et al was 0.8 [ 29 ], Zheng et al was 0.9 [ 30 ], Gu et al was 0.869 [ 31 ], Luo et al were 0.766 and 0.732 [ 32 ], and Li et al was 0.82 [ 33 ]. Although the AUC value of the ROC curves identified in our study was not the highest among them, was not even the lowest, which indicated that our gene signature was potentially significant.…”

“…Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were produced with the R package 'timeROC' to assess the sensitivity and speci city of the PRG-signature model [13]. The area under the curve (AUC) was then calculated as the main quantitative parameter [14]. Univariate Cox regression was a critical analytical approach for determining the PRG-independent signature's predictive function based on clinical and survival data.…”
