An automated nondestructive testing system for the surface of pressure pipeline welds

Abstract: Pressure pipelines are widely used in hydropower generation, oil and gas transmission, and other fields. After years of operation, a pressure pipeline needs regular maintenance to ensure its safety. At present, manual detection methods are unable to meet this demand. An automatic pressure pipeline detection technology is urgently needed to achieve improved efficiency and accuracy. On the basis of the above requirements, a wall‐climbing robot is designed for automatic pressure pipe inspection and maintenance ta… Show more

“…Most of these environments are dangerous for human entrance. Therefore, wall climbing robots are often used to replace human operation in challenging tasks, such as the inspection of nuclear power plants and large oil tanks [1,2], the maintenance of pipelines [3][4][5], the inspection of planes [6], as well as the cleaning of skyscrapers [7][8][9]. To ensure stable and reliable operations in similar tasks, WCR needs to be capable of operating on surfaces with different materials and qualities and, at the same time equipped with different locomotion abilities.…”
