An audit of half-count myocardial perfusion imaging using resolution recovery software

Abstract: Half of the participating centres could potentially make use of resolution recovery to reduce the administered activity for myocardial perfusion scans without changing their routine acquisition protocols. The other half could consider adjusting the reconstruction parameters used with their resolution recovery software if they wish to use reduced activity successfully.

“…Clarity 2D processing was applied to five planar images (blend ratio = 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%) with LEHRS to evaluate SwiftScan planar image. In addition, we created three planar images simulating one-fourth time (25% acquisition), half time (50% acquisition), and three-fourth time (75% acquisition) acquisitions as the clinical condition time (100% acquisition) using a technique called 'Poisson resampling' [15][16][17] . The photo-peak and scatter windows of SPECT scan were set to 140.5 keV ± 10% and 120 keV ± 5%, and acquired with 128 × 128 matrices, 4.42 mm of pixel size, the ellipse orbit of 360° in 6° increments.…”

“…Finally, in 2014 Lawson et al [12] published results of wide, multi-center trial that aimed at verification of a usefulness of myocardial perfusion image reconstruction methods applying resolution recovery. Sixteen nuclear medicine departments in Great Britain, which routinely performed myocardial perfusion Original imaging, took part in the study.…”

“…Only in a publication by Lawson et al [9], presenting results of a multi-center trial conducted in sixteen nuclear medicine departments in Great Britain a lower agreement between full and half time studies were obtained. In 41% of patients results of standard and shortened stud- Abnormal results 6 31 Original ies differed, and in 10% in a clinically significant way.…”
