“…The results indicated there is a potential of tapping into the majority of medium class lakes as alternative water sources during severe drought seasons, especially in a highly industrialized, commercialized and population density area. The rationale is the serious scenarios of insufficient water supply to meet water demands during long drought seasons for the past 5 years in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, especially in the areas or district with high population densities and thriving businesses or industrial activities (Ali et al., ). Thus, tapping the potential of recreational lakes as alternative water sources to reduce water shortage crises is one solution seriously being considered by policymakers.…”

“…Recreational lakes have been considered an influential factor in increasing residential and commercial property values, a favourite soft feature in landscaping as they provide amenity and aesthetic values to the general public and contribute a significant role in urban climate regulation (Larsona & Perrings, ; Tallis, Kennedy, Ruckelshaus, Goldstein, & Kiesecker, ; Tuttle & Heintzelman, ). They also have been seriously considered as alternative water supplies in high population density states, cities, district and towns during dry periods because of water shortage issues and supplies from main reservoir not being sufficient to meet water demands (Ali, Saadon, Abd Rahman, & Khalid, ; Xue, Yin, & Xie, ). The increasing concern is they are facing numerous threats attributable to rapid urbanization, subsequent increased human activities, significant changes in land‐use patterns, high population growth and, more recently, climate change impacts (Ding, Chen, Cheng, & Wang, ; Erol & Randhir, ; Liu, Long, Li, & Tu, ; Zessner et al., ; Zhu, Zhang, & Tong, ).…”

“…It is becoming an absolute necessity for a good management of water resources allocation in order to equitably satisfy the drinking water needs of the population and the economic sectors. (Zerkaoui et al, 2018, Al-Shutayri, et Al-Juaidi,2019, Alemu et Dioha,2020, Ali et al,2014.…”

“…The basin became a first watershed in the country is initiated towards implementing of Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) [19]. Many researchers were studied on the hydrological processes of the basin include a historical water discharges study [20]; the impact of land used change on discharge and direct runoff [21]- [24]; sustainable groundwater resources and environmental management [25]; the flood hazard mapping [26], [27]; the water supply [28], [29]; water quality [30] and a river bed properties study of the river basin [31], [32]. The most current in early 2014, the upper part of the basin was experienced the ammonia pollution due to the effluent Fig.…”
