Research in sustainability has focused on the productive industry and other polluting sectors, leaving aside the sustainable development of the service industry such as retail. Increasingly, retail companies are facing substantial sustainability problems such as pressure from resource limitations, fierce competition, the variability of customer needs, and the development of technology. Adopting best practices through managerial learning is the key to achieving sustainable development for retailers. However, there is a lack of discussion of the micro mechanism of sustainable development in the existing sustainable research field. From the perspective of internal sustainable development, taking Chinese retailers as the sample, this study explores the effect of the managerial learning mechanism on sustainable development on the basis of empirical research. First, this study measures the management efficiency of Chinese retailers, which is the micro basis of sustainable development. Second, the effects of two types of managerial learning mechanisms (government-driven and professional organization driven) on management efficiency are tested. The results show that management efficiency contributes to the growth of the total factor productivity in Chinese retailers, and firms should attach importance to the improvement of management efficiency. Specifically, retailers can strengthen management efficiency by establishing managerial learning platforms with professional institutions, and thus prevent the substitution role of absorptive capacity.

efficiency productivity regional analysis DEA analysis window DEA Malmquist index productivity A P S T R A K T Vrlo je aktuelna i kontinuirano se istražuje problematika efikasnosti i totalne faktorske produktivnost u svim privrednim sektorima, što znači i u trgovinskom. Pri tom se u novije vreme sve više koristi DEA analiza, DEA prozor analiza, DEA Malmquist indeks produktivnosti, Fuzzy Topsis metoda i drugi matematički modeli i metode, pored statističke analize. Imajući to u vidu, u ovom radu se istražuje dinamika efikasnosti i totalne faktorske produktivnosti trgovinskih preduzeća u Srbiji po pojedinim regionima primenom DEA prozora analize i DEA Malmquist indeksa produktivnosti. Dobijeni rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da je znatno veća efikasnost i produktivnost trgovinskih preduzeća u regionima Srbija -Sever, Beogradski region, i Region Vojvodine nego u ostalim posmatranim regionima (Srbija -Jug, Region Šumadije i Zapadne Srbije i Region Južne i Istočne Srbije). In today's low-growth business environment, efficiency management is becoming more important to improve corporate sustainability. In a chain store, the efficiency of individual stores must be well managed to improve the efficiency of the entire enterprise. To do this, it is important to measure the efficiency of individual stores and to find factors that affect efficiency. The main purpose of this study is to find out the factors affecting the efficiency of chain stores and to analyze the results to find out the implications that contribute to an improvement in efficiency. We measured the relative efficiency of individual stores using data envelopment analysis (DEA) and analyzed the factors that affect efficiency with the Tobit regression model. As a result, we found that the number of items per employee and a competitive environment influence the efficiency of stores. An excessive number of items may cause efficiency to be lowered. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the life cycle of the product, considering the trade-off between assortment and efficiency. Competition helps to improve efficiency to some extent, but too much competition can reduce efficiency.
