Organic farming is of the utmost importance in promoting environmentally sustainable agricultural practices, minimizing environmental contamination, and avoiding using chemical fertilizers and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Even inexperienced and seasoned farmers frequently encounter formidable obstacles when attempting to authenticate their organic farming status by acquiring organic agriculture certification. The current level of agricultural land maturity is accurately assessed by a comprehensive model presented in this study, which also provides a framework for the transition to organic farming standards. These maturity models were formulated through an exhaustive analysis of agricultural standards, an extensive review of pertinent literature, and expert interviews conducted in 15 distinct locations, with each expert holding certification in a minimum of three organic agricultural standards. Identifying characteristics germane to organic standards, integrating them into maturity models, and establishing maturity items and dimensions are also components of the study. The outcome of our investigation is the Sustainable Organic Farming Maturity (SOFaM) model, which consists of five levels and eight dimensions, as well as a standard operating procedure manual for organic agricultural standard certification applications. This model's potential as an assessment instrument for determining the maturity level of agricultural land has been validated by experts who hold credentials in three distinct domains and three locations. The SOFaM model has the potential to function as a paradigm shift in the agricultural sector, streamline the certification process following organic farming standards, and guarantee adherence to predetermined criteria.

Implementing Good Agricultural Practices-Geographical Indications (GAP-GI) pepper is an effort to increase the production and productivity of pepper produced by farmers. For GAP-GI pepper to be optimally applied by farmers, the role of agricultural extension workers is needed. Extension workers bridge the gap between farmers' knowledge and GAP-GI practices. This study explores how the application of pepper GAP-IG and the role of agricultural extension workers in the application of pepper GAP by farmers. This study used a quantitative approach with survey methods, using a sample of pepper farmers in Bangka Belitung province, Indonesia, with as many as 270 people, sampling using a multistage random sampling method-data collection using observation, interview, and questionnaire techniques. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, tabulations, and Likert scales. The results showed that pepper farmers in implementing Good Agricultural Practices-Geographical Indications (GAP-IG) had not been maximized, with an achievement rate of 52.07 per cent. Meanwhile, the role of agricultural extension workers in implementing Good Agricultural Practices Geographical indications (GAP-GI) of pepper is also not optimal, with an achievement rate of 40.13 per cent. Improving the application of Good Agricultural Practices Geographical Indications (GAP-GI) pepper can be done by increasing the knowledge and skills of farmers in the selection and processing stages as well as the stages of integrated cultivation management. The government organizes special education and training for extension workers to improve competence and perform optimally.

Excessive use of pesticides in high-value crops proves detrimental to both health and the environment. This action research aims to evaluate farmers’ food safety practices as basis in introducing interventions to empower them toward the adoption of good agricultural practices for safe and sustainable farming. In this study, bitter gourd farmers (n=30) from Rizal, Laguna, Philippines were randomly sampled and surveyed. Current agricultural practices of the farmer participants and sustainability gaps in production were determined to assess the factors that contribute to their existing knowledge. Based on the results, socio-economic variables such as age, income, poverty, years of farming, and tenancy arrangement were found to be associated with GAP-related practices. Most of the farmers were aware of the importance of reading the product label of pesticides before application, wearing protective equipment, and routine monitoring. Moreover, a training intervention that focused on the identified sustainability gaps was provided. Farmers were trained in integrated pest management, internal control system on pesticide use, and keeping records to equip them towards safe and sustainable farming. Training, monitoring, and other extension activities should be provided occasionally to the farmers for continuous adherence to these sustainable practices.
