An Assessment of Flood Hazards Due to the Breach of the Manggarai Flood Gate

Abstract: Central Jakarta is developed on a natural flood plain with a long history of flooding that leads to a series of flood control systems with Manggarai Gate at its center. Nowadays, as a regulator gate, Manggarai Gate is still good enough to control flood hazards in Central Jakarta. However, after operating for more than 100 years, it is necessary to measure the influence of increasing seismic activity, maximum rainfall, sedimentation rate, and solid waste problems on the potential of the Manggarai Gate breach. T… Show more

“…Analisis selanjutnya yang digunakan adalah pemodelan spasial menggunakan Hec-Ras dengan analisis Unsteady Flow. Analisis ini dengan persamaan kontinuitas dan momentum yang digambarkan dalam persamaan diferensial parsial (Kesuma et al, 2022). Tahapan pemodelan spasial adalah membuat geometri sungai dari data DEM yang telah diberikan koordinat sistem (projection) yang sesuai, dalam hal ini dilakukan pada Global Mapper.…”

“…To determine the land cover change model, the Marcov chain Celluler Automata formula [19] is used which uses the assumption that future land cover changes xt +1, and ( t +1) depend on current conditions expressed by xt .To determine the transition matrix for land cover change, the formula proposed by [20,21] as follows: 𝑃1.1𝑝1.2𝑝1. 𝑛 𝑃 = (𝑝𝑖𝑗) = 𝑝2.1𝑝2.2𝑝2.…”

“…The inability of micro-drainage to cover the incoming debit water appears to not only stem from the government's traditional preference for engineered flood protection measures (Wannewitz and Garschagen, 2020). Meanwhile, flood hazards in several areas of Jakarta might be generated by the failure of hydraulic structures due to the increasing earthquake occurrence or strong solid waste drift (Sengara et al, 2008;Tri Nugraha et al, 2022). In most pilot areas, the existing measures could be assigned to the protection and prevention layers, while preparedness and recovery were less strongly developed (Karrasch et al, 2021).…”
