Abstract:This paper reports on the development of a wearable gesture recognition device for communicating with children that have acute communication difficulties. The device was designed with the aid of an artificial neural network (ANN) to develop and refine the physical gestures made by the user. The findings of the evaluation of the data handling are discussed with a view to improving on both its functions in gesture recognition and further development of its database.
