An approach to define semantics for BPM systems interoperability

Abstract: This article proposes defining semantics for Business Process Management systems interoperability through the ontology of Electronic Business Documents (EBD) used to interchange the information required to perform cross-organizational processes. The semantic model generated allows aligning enterprise's business processes to support cross-organizational processes by matching the business ontology of each business partner with the EBD ontology. The result is a flexible software architecture that allows dynamical… Show more

“…The second paper, authored by Rico, M., Caliusco, M.L., Chiotti, O. and Gralli, M.R., proposes a definition of semantic metadata for supporting interoperability among business process management systems (Rico et al 2014). Particularly, it has designed the EBD (Electric Business Documents) ontology through five phases: (1) identification, (2) generation, (3) verification, (4) enrichment and (5) validation.…”

“…He discussed that by interoperability or capability to collaborate, the effective capability of mutual communication of information, requests, and results have been earned. Rico et al 9 propose defining semantics for BPMS interoperability. This model on the basis of a strategy for detecting features accepts defining enterprise's BP to help cross-organizational processes.…”

“…8 In this case, the BPMS of enterprises interacts among them to perform cross-organizational business super-processes and cross-organizational collaboration. 9 Generally, with cross-organizational collaboration which includes a joining of resources, the organization can act stronger than individual status. Also, it causes to improve their performance and competitiveness.…”

“…The annotation of a process model with semantics has different focuses, such as semantic information retrieval (Luo et al, 2016;Li et al, 2014), cross-enterprise collaboration (Hoang, Jung and Tran, 2014), service governance (Cai et al, 2018), BPM systems interoperability (Rico et al, 2015), evaluation of the aspects related to the enterprise process flows (Ingvaldsen and Gulla, 2012). However, the customization of a process model by annotating the concepts an ontology is not addressed by many authors.…”
