An annotated checklist of the vascular flora of the Arezzo administrative province (Tuscany, Italy)

Abstract: For each accepted taxon, the names used by the authors we quote are indicated in the original form, even if not formally correct (i.e. with the original abbreviation and with or without authors, as indicated in the bibliographical references), following the abbreviation "Cit. sub" (cited sub). “…All the taxa listed here, but especially those included under doubtful status (i.e., inquirenda ), are therefore taxa that will most likely be amended and adapted in the future in light of the expected scientific advances and discoveries. This approach has already been adopted for other recent floras (e.g., [ 55 , 56 ]) to broaden the debate and highlight the need for further research in even such relatively studied territories. For instance, as elsewhere in the world [ 57 ], most taxa, even several includenda , have been described on the basis of morphological characteristics and then never confirmed by molecular evidence.…”

This approach has been already adopted for other recent floras [e.g., 55,56] to broaden the debate and highlight the need of further research in even so relatively studied territories. Among others, many inquirenda are those cryptic and doubtful taxa belonging to the genera Limonium, Ophrys and several Asteraceae -especially those from the Cichorieae tribe -such as the ones of the genera Hieracium and Taraxacum.…”

“…The life form analysis highlighted a clear predominance of hemicryptophytes (117 taxa) and chamaephytes (107), followed by geophytes (55), phanerophytes (29 nano-phanerophytes + six phanerophytes) and therophytes (26). The majority of taxa are endemic exclusively to Sardinia (194 taxa); further 81 taxa are endemic to Sardinia and Corsica, together accounting for 81% of the total endemic vascular flora (Fig.…”

“…This association is particularly important from the conservation viewpoint as Lemna trisulca is a rare species in the study area. The sampled locality represents the only site known in the Arezzo province (Viciani et al 2021). 2, rels 13-14; Utr_aus, rels 51-52 in Fig.…”
