A survey of coleopterous beetles and weevils was conducted at Deshna district, Qena Governorate, Egypt during two successive years from April 2018 to March 2020. This survey revealed the collection of about 47946 & 49246 individuals belonging to 27 families in each year. The most abundant families were Scarabeidae (15145 individuals representing 31.6% of the total catch). This family was collected from April to December, followed by Carabidae (13327 individuals being 27.8% of the total catch). Carabid beetles were caught almost all through the year from March to December. Elateridae was the least abundant (7335 individuals representing 15.3% of the total catch). Data from previous literature were used to compile a checklist of the of north African hydraenid beetles. Members of Hydraenidae are mostly 0.5-3 mm in length and genitalia of different species under the same taxonomic group are almost indistinguishable. The external morphology of several taxa, e.g., Ochthebiinae, is largely variable. Mostly all the described genera or subgenera are with uncertain relationships in addition to the presence of many assigned but undescribed species. Here we summarize the recorded species of family Hydraenidae in the north Africa. The species distribution in the Palearctic region is provided. According to the analysis of literature a total of 15, 15, 61, 39 species were recorded in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia respectively. The genus Ochthebius was represented by 15, 13, 36, 16 species, while Hydraena by 19, 1, 15, 12 species, and Limnebius species was represented by 3,

ABSTRACT. An annotated list of the aquatic Polyphaga (Coleoptera: Helophoridae, Georissidae, Hydrochidae, Spercheidae, Scirtidae, Elmidae, Dryopidae, Limnichidae and Heteroceridae) recorded from Egypt is presented, based on data gathered from earlier literature. The checklist includes data on the type localities, references in which the species are described in detail, world and Egyptian distributions, and previous literature, for 21 valid species belonging to 13 genera: Helophorus (Helophoridae); Georissus (Georissidae); Hydrochus (Hydrochidae); Spercheus (Spercheidae); Contacyphon (Scirtidae); Oulimnius and Potamodytes (Elmidae); Dryops and Parahelichus (Dryopidae); Bothriophorus and Pelochares (Limnichidae); Augyles and Heterocerus (Heteroceridae). The present study provides a summary that can provide a basis for future progress in the knowledge of the Egyptian aquatic Coleoptera.
