An annotated checklist of anomuran species (Crustacea: Decapoda) of India

Abstract: An annotated checklist of the anomuran crustaceans recorded from Indian waters is compiled from available published literature. A total of 231 species belonging to 58 genera, 15 families and five superfamilies are listed. The highest number of species was seen in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Ecoregion (114 species, 37 genera, 14 families), followed by the South India Ecoregion (111 species, 41 genera, 14 families), West India Ecoregion (93 species, 36 genera, 14 families), Eastern India Ecoregion (76 specie… Show more

“…MP contamination has been assessed in the beach sediment of different countries, including Bangladesh (Rahman et al, 2020), China (Claessens et al, 2011), Germany (Dekiff et al, 2014), Slovenia (Laglbauer et al, 2014), Tunisia (Abidli et al, 2017), Scotland (Blumenröder et al, 2017), England (Horton et al, 2017), and Portugal (Rodrigues et al, 2018). India, with a coastline exceeding 8000 km, supports rich biodiversity (Ng et al, 2015; Patel et al, 2022; Trivedi et al, 2015, 2018, 2020; Trivedi & Vachhrajani, 2015) and home to one‐third of its population, faces a critical challenge of plastic pollution (Rabari, Patel, Patel, et al, 2023). Reliance on fishing for livelihoods is substantial, yet inadequate waste management and ocean‐bound wastewater discharge cause worldwide concern about plastic pollution.…”

“…Extensive studies were conducted on various groups of crustaceans inhabiting the coastal areas of Gujarat State to understand their diversity ( Trivedi & Vachhrajani, 2013 , 2017 ; Trivedi, Soni & Vachhrajani, 2015 ; Trivedi, Osawa & Vachhrajani, 2016 ; Trivedi, Trivedi & Vachharajani, 2017 ; Trivedi, Campos & Vachhrajani, 2018 ; Trivedi et al, 2015a , 2015b , 2018 , 2020 ; Patel et al, 2022 ; Thacker et al, 2023 ) and ecology ( Trivedi, 2016 ; Trivedi & Vachhrajani, 2012 ; Trivedi & Vachhrajani, 2014a , 2014b ). Among these, crabs are widely distributed omnivores that are sensitive to environmental changes and frequently employed as pollution indicators ( Aheto et al, 2011 ; Jonah et al, 2015 ; Doshi et al, 2024 ).…”
