“…Several interim and fi nal contract reports from KRUG International, KRUG Life Sciences, and Wyle Life Sciences, Inc., summarized DCS research efforts ( 66 -68,131 -133,145 ), including one which outlined experimental parameters of completed and ongoing efforts ( 146 ). The reports listed references which emanated from the contracted efforts and are discussed elsewhere in this review.…”

“…The goal of developing a zero-prebreathe pressure suit environment for EVA from an Earth-normal atmosphere required evaluation of pressures to determine the safe level of decompression in a mixed-gas environment. At 8.3 psia while breathing a 50:50 N 2 :O 2 mix, a 3% DCS incidence and 27% severe VGE were observed, implying a higher pressure for a future EVA pressure suit would be necessary with that breathing gas ( 146 ). In testing of a 60% N 2 and 40% O 2 breathing mix, Dixon and Krutz ( 36 ) showed that both men and women were protected from DCS and severe VGE at 9.5 psia.…”
