There were some students’ problems that the writer found at MAN 4 AGAM. First, some students could not develop their ideas when writing. Second, some students were confused about using tenses. Next, some students had limited vocabulary. The last, some students were wrong in diction. This research aimed to discover the students’ problems in writing personal letters and the causes of students’ problems in writing personal letters. In this research, the researcher used mix method by using descriptive design. The mixed-method was the combination of quantitative and qualitative research. The informants of this research were the students of the XI IS-1 class, which consisted of 19 students. The data were obtained through documentation and interview. This research found five aspects of students’ problems in writing a personal letter—the problems which percentage 18,2 % was content. The second was organization, with a percentage of 15,4 %. Next, the student's problem in grammar was 25,3 %. After that, the problem of vocabulary was 23,2 %. The last, mechanics’ problem was 17,7 %. Therefore, from the percentage, the most common of students’ problems was grammar. There were some causes why students got a problem in writing a personal letter. There was the psychological, linguistic, and cognitive problem. Thus, based on an interview with some students, the most cause of the problem was linguistic problems.

This study investigates the language attitude of Javanese Nomads’ towards Javanese and Batak Toba Language in Sumbul City. The participants of this study are the age of 17 to 60 years. There are four informants ranging in age from 17 to 25, there are four informants of ethnic married partner, and four informants ranging in age from 40 to 50 years old and have been living in Sumbul city for more than 10 years. The study id based on the purposive sampling technique. Technic for data collection is supported by interview transcript and some other instruments such as field note, recording tools. Data from questionnaire is analyzed by using the steps: (1) reduction the data into positive and negative attitude, (2) data display through textual representation on Javanese and Tobanese language attitude, (3) verification and drawing conclusion. The data from interview is analyzed by (1) transcribing the data from tape recorder, (2) classifying data into some categories of factors contribute to positive or negative attitude, (3) verifying the data through asking interview participant to do confirmation and (4) come to conclusion. Cognitive Factors shows that Javanese inhabitants’ comprehension to their language is proficient enough since more than 50 % of informants realize that their language is their typical characteristic of their ethnic, however 25 % of the informants who are dominated by young generation rarely use their ethnic language. As many as 25% of used Indonesian and Toba Batak language to communicate in daily life interaction, this is caused by work factors as they have to adapt environment dominated by other ethnic and Indonesian language as official language in their work institution. Affective Aspects of Javanese inhabitants aged 17 – 25 most frequently use Indonesian language at school and campus than Javanese language. Conative Factors shows Javanese informants (60%) rarely or even never use Javanese language as they seldom interact or meet up with Javanese people even they meet up with Javanese people they prefer to use Indonesian language. However, four informants (40%) sometimes still use Javanese language to communicate at home, big family gathering, interact with other Javanese people those who have eagerness to keep using Javanese language in communication in market, workplace, mosque. The goal of this study was to see how effective Realia was at writing descriptive text by the first semester of English at Unismuh Makassar. The sample for this study was drawn from two classes using the purposive sampling technique, with one group serving as the experimental class and the other as the control class, for a total sample of 30 students from the English Department at Unismuh Makassar's first semester. This study's instrument was a writing test. The researcher used a pre-test and a post-test to collect data. The researcher taught the descriptive text using realia. The researcher used the t-test to statistically analyze the data. The t - value was calculated to be 6.55. The t- table value was 2.00 based on the 0.05 significance level, and the computation revealed that the t- value was more significant than the t- table, which was 6.55>2.00. The effectiveness of realia can also be seen in the experimental and control groups' post-treatment scores. The experimental class's mean posttest score was 86.51, putting it in the very good category. The control group's mean posttest score was 76.54, putting it in the good category. The experimental group outperformed the control group, it is possible to conclude. Based on the t-test results, it can be demonstrated that using realia as a media in writing, specifically descriptive text for students, is a reference for teachers.
