In this paper, the state of art of ultrasonicassisted machining technologies used for fabrication of micro/nano-textured surfaces is reviewed. Diamond machining is the most widely used method in industry for manufacturing precision parts. For fabrication of fine structures on surfaces, conventional diamond machining methods are competitive by considering the precision of structures, but have limitations at machinable structures and machining efficiency, which have been proved to be partly solved by the integration of ultrasonic vibration motion. In this paper, existing ultrasonic-assisted machining methods for fabricating fine surface structures are reviewed and classified, and a rotary ultrasonic texturing (RUT) technology is mainly introduced by presenting the construction of vibration spindles, the texturing principles, and the applications of textured surfaces. Some new ideas and experimental results are presented. Finally, the challenges in using the RUT method to fabricate micro/ nano-textured surfaces are discussed with respect to texturing strategies, machinable structures, and tool wear.

Traditional cutting process reduce cutting force by increasing cutting speed and the sharpness of tip, and elliptical vibration cutting is a new cutting method, not only to overcome the shortcomings of traditional cutting process, but also can enhance the shape accuracy and system stability of the work piece, slow the wear of the tools. This article provide theoretical guidance for the actual processing by explaining the formation mechanism of surface morphology of elliptical vibration cutting, analysing cutting parameters which have significant impact on the morphology of elliptical vibration and optimizing the cutting parameters which highly effect the surface scallop height in elliptical vibration cutting 1 .

This paper reports on the diamond cutting based generation of hierarchical micronanostructures, which are conventionally difficult for both mechanical and non-mechanical methods to achieve. A novel end-fly-cutting-servo (EFCS) system, with four-axis servo motions that combine the concepts of fast/slow tool servo and endface fly-cutting, is proposed and investigated. In the EFCS system, an intricately shaped primary surface is generated by material removal, while the desired secondary nanostructures are simultaneously constructed using residual tool marks by actively controlling tool loci. The potential of the EFCS system is demonstrated firstly by fabricating a nanostructured F-theta freeform surface and a nanostructured micro-aspheric array.
