As hypertext learning environments (HLE) are widely used in education, it is important to study and know the effects and consequences of its use. HLEs are non-linear which means that students have to develop ways of navigating through them. Thus, developing interfaces that facilitate and even guide navigation is important for learning. Research showed that successful learning in HLEs depends on both learner characteristics and HLE features. This study investigated an HLE navigation feature (navigational support with either a tag-cloud or conventional hierarchical menu), task complexity (fact-finding vs. information-gathering task) and a user characteristic (gender). Results show that neither navigational support nor gender is associated with differences in task performance. However, there are differences in information processing. Participants using a tag clouds looked longer at the navigational support and shorter at the overview pages. Combined with fewer revisits of webpages in the tag cloud condition, this indicates a more focused selection of pages. The deeper processing of information needed for the information-gathering task was reflected in fewer visits to, but longer viewing times of pages. As no differences in task performance were found, tag clouds seem to be as effective for performance as more traditional navigation structures for navigational support.

Este trabalho de articulação teórica, ancorado em pesquisa bibliográfica, considera como plataformas algorítmicas as redes de acesso controlado nas quais o usuário é governado via algoritmos e sua identidade é redefinida continuamente com base em dados fornecidos por ele ou extraídos de sua atividade. Para entender as circunstâncias em torno da interação do usuário com essas plataformas, o artigo propõe e desenvolve categorias que adaptam e reformulam elementos conceituais de diversas origens. A interpelação refere-se à abordagem do usuário pelo algoritmo, que é recalibrada a cada iteração e cuja agência pode distribuir-se em instâncias de alteridade representadas pelo algoritmo ou por outros atores. Tal abordagem opera por meio da definição ad hoc de perfis a partir da combinação de traços do usuário, o perfilamento. Este, por sua vez, consolida-se em virtude de sua assunção pelo usuário, que corresponde à performatividade.

Metaphors are a powerful conceptual device to reason about human actions. As such, they have been heavily used in designing and describing human computer interaction. Since they can address scripted text, verbal expression, imaging, sound, and gestures, they can also be considered in the design and analysis of multimodal interfaces. \ud \ud In this paper we discuss the description and evaluation of the relations between metaphors and their implementation in human computer interaction with a focus on tangible user interfaces (TUIs), a form of multimodal interface. The objective of this paper is to define how metaphors appear in a tangible context in order to support their evaluation. Relying on matching entities and operations between the domain of interaction and the domain of the digital application, we propose a conceptual framework based on three components: a structured representation of the mappings holding between the metaphor source, the metaphor target, the interface and the digital system; a conceptual model for describing metaphorical TUIs; three relevant properties, coherence, coverage and compliance, which define at what extent the implementation of a metaphorical tangible interface matches the metaphor. The conceptual framework is then validated and applied on a tangible prototype in an educational application
