Purpose In the fourth industrial revolution, where business accounting integrates with automation through artificial intelligence (AI) and information communication technology (ICT), auditors must be able to access and analyze vast data and information to identify potential risks and issues. Using data analytics and AI to study significant amounts of data linked to audits, this study aims to investigate auditing practices by leveraging ICT and AI to enhance the audit process. Design/methodology/approach Bibliometric and quantitative research techniques have been used in the study’s mixed-method process. The theoretical underpinnings of AI have been investigated using the bibliometric research method, and the challenge of implementing ICT-enabled auditing practices among auditing professionals has been studied using the quantitative research method. Surveys, interviews and bibliometric analysis have all been used as data-gathering techniques. Findings Research in AI and auditing has a broad worldwide scope, involving developed and developing nations. ICT perceived benefits have no direct effect on auditing practices. However, ICT training has a mediating effect on the relationship between ICT perceived benefits and auditing practices. ICT adoption has no moderating effect on the relationship between ICT training and auditing practices. Research limitations/implications Findings have significance for lead auditors, policymakers and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), who are keenly interested in upgrading the auditing practice of accounting professionals in India by incorporating AI and ICT determinants. Practical implications This research makes a significant contribution by offering a thorough framework for improving the knowledge management of practising auditors regarding ICT adoption, training and perceived benefits, a crucial component of auditing practices in the digital age. In addition, it provides insightful information about how AI affects accounting practices, which may point the way for further study in this area. Originality/value This research has significant implications for auditing firms in India. It can inform ICAI, policymakers and regulators in their attempts to foster the incorporation of AI and ICTs in auditing practice.

This study assessed the connection between Management Accounting Practices (MAPs) and sustainability performance (SsP) of manufacturing institutions in Ghana. MAPs comprise the following sub constructs: Costing System (CS), Budgeting System (BS), Performance Management System (PMS), Decision Support System (DSS) and Strategic Management Accounting Practices (SMAP). SsP comprises the following sub indicators: Financial Performance (FP), Social Performance (SP) and Environmental Performance (EP). This research is a quantitative study that applied the cross-sessional survey design to obtain data from managers of manufacturing institutions in Ghana. This was done through the administration of structured questionnaire. Data from 266 respondents were processed using Smart PLS (version 4) and analysed using the Structural Equation Modelling. The paper found significant positive relationships between CS and FP, DSS and EP, DSS and SP, PMS and EP, PMS and SP, as well as SMAP and EP. All other direct relationships were not significant. The research contributes to the literature on MAPs by empirically linking SMAP to SsP of Ghanaian manufacturing firms. These findings extend the literature on MAPs by encouraging manufacturing firms in Ghana to constantly review the activities of competitors before taking decisions since this will help to boost their SsP. The study recommends that leadership of manufacturing firms in Ghana should implement CS (like job costing, process costing and variable costing), DSS (like customer profitability analysis and net present value analysis), PMS (like ratio analysis and keeping records of why employees leave the firm or absent themselves from work) as well as SMAP (like constantly observing what competitors are doing before taking decisions) in order to enhance their sustainability performance (SsP).

This empirical investigation explores the impact of the digital accounting system (DAS) on corporate governance (CG). The rapid advancement of technology has revolutionized various aspects of business operations, including accounting processes. The transition from traditional manual accounting systems to digital platforms has been accompanied by significant changes in corporate governance practices. This study aims to investigate the influence of DAS effectiveness (bookkeeping system, DAS security, IFRS adoption, and budgeting system) and the success of DAS (system quality, information quality, and service quality) on CG. The study determined the relationship by conducting a questionnaire survey of 264 senior managers, accountants, and department heads of pharmaceutical companies in Yemen. Partial Least Squares (PLS) was used for data analysis. The results supported all assumed relationships except the relationship between the budgeting system and CG. Specifically, unlike all supposed relationships, the budgeting system had no significant impact on CG. Despite the fact that prior studies have investigated these issues from different aspects in developed countries, the evidence in less developed countries is still unknown. Further, revisiting DAS and CG aspects with different new insights and measures, particularly bookkeeping system, DAS security, IFRS adoption, budgeting system, system quality, information quality, and service quality, has not been the subject of prior studies. As a result, the present study bridges a serious gap in the existing stock of knowledge in DAS and CG studies. Moreover, this piece of research has useful implications for managers, investors, practitioners, academicians, and decision‐makers.
