An analysis of some soil properties along gully erosion sites under different land use areas of Gombe Metropolis, Gombe State, Nigeria

Abstract: The paper tries to analyse soil properties around three sampled gully erosion sites that cut across different land use in the study area. The aim of the study is to determine the soil physical and chemical properties of the major gully sites cutting across different land use in Gombe metropolis. Data used in this study were derived from soil samples collected from the gully sites and other secondary sources. Three sampled gully profiles were purposively selected for the study. Soil samples were collected at 0-… Show more

“…Metallic concentrations: The mean concentrations of phosphorus (P) from the sites were 16.1, 18.5, 18.9, and 19.1 mg•kg -1 for sites (A-D) respectively. Concentration tends to increase down the slope of the seasonal river and falls within medium standard ratings [51] (Table 4), but falls under high concentration [47,50]. Potassium (K) concentrations fluctuate between 3.27, 2.60, 3.67 and 2.30 mg•kg -1 .…”

“…There is an expected level of road transport development which has not been realized for the sustainable social, political and economic development of southwestern Nigeria. The researcher in [30], expressed that the performance of Nigerian roads is yet to be satisfactory in spite of several efforts to make it so. This current paper presents the result of the quantification of earth material for sustainable road works in South East, Nigeria.…”
