Many companies have already experienced the benefits sustainability may bring in terms of positive impacts on society, the environment, and its market value. Despite this, most of them do not know how Human Resource Development (HRD) could effectively promote employees' commitment to results and facilitate organizational change. The main objective of this paper is to propose guidelines for the development of human resources that contributes toward sustainability in organizations. The drivers of sustainability and HRD identified in the literature supported the analyses of 19 GRI G4 sustainability reports from Brazilian companies included in the BM&F Bovespa Corporate Sustainability Index ( 2016). The analyses allowed the characterization of the companies' sustainability and HRD initiatives, as well as the elaboration of ten HRD guidelines to foster corporate sustainability. This work contributes to the articulation on how the concepts of HRD and sustainability are related, promoting the discussion about the drivers of the HRD that can support managers in the journey toward sustainable development.

The purpose of this article is to characterize and discuss the elements and functions most commonly integrated in Brazilian companies certified by the management systems ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and to identify the benefits and difficulties from integration. This study contributes with suggestions of achievements to overcome the major difficulties and challenges faced during the integration process. In order to support the research, the theoretical framework was conducted comprising certifiable management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001) and Integrated Management Systems. The study was based on a qualitative approach supported by an analysis in the practical context, which examined the results of fourteen case studies in Brazilian industrial companies. The development of the research involved three visits in each one of the companies studied. The results indicated the most integrated elements and functions in the companies studied are the high management responsibility, work instructions, control of documents and records, internal communication and structure and accountability. Further, the benefits of integration were the improvement in efficiency of operations and internal communication, greater agility in the decision-making process, increase in the quality of goods and services produced or provided and increase in reliability of the products and processes. The main difficulties were the complexity of integration process and the high amount of human and financial resources spent on implementation.

Confronted with more complex and numerous environmental issues many companies realized that environmental initiatives can be more effectively managed through an EMS which provide a systematic and coherent approach of their activities. In the present paper we describe the two most recognized and widely applied systems for environmental management -EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and ISO 14001 certifications. Once viewed as an external cost, environmental responsibility is fast becoming a competitive advantage for companies and for the whole economy of a country. Our paper adds new perspective to the literature framework, by showing that even if the differences between ISO 14001 and EMAS still exist they are not competitors, moreover ISO 14001 requirements are integrated into EMAS scheme, become compatible to each other. To achieve the objective of this paper we make an analysis regarding the number of Romanian organizations that have a certified environmental management system, in compliance with the two main international references. The results show that in our countries the number of organizations with an EMS certified by ISO 14001 is much higher than the number of organizations registered under EMAS. This represents an opportunity, given that once with the adoption of EMAS II, ISO 14001 is a step stone towards EMAS certification and companies can integrate both standards in their management system, achieving more benefits on the European markets. Another opportunity to increase the number of EMAS registration are economic and financial incentives offered to small and medium sized companies.
