“…Among the nine families in Pinopsida, only Podocarpaceae and Taxaceae are reported to have underdeveloped embryos. Detailed studies have shown that seeds of species in Taxaceae have an underdeveloped embryo, and deep simple MPD has been documented in seeds of Cephalotaxus wilsoniana (Yang et al , 2011), Taxus baccata (Devillez, 1978), T. brevifolia (Nikolaeva et al , 1985), T. cuspidata (Nikolaeva et al , 1985; Cheng et al , 2004) and T. mairei (Chien et al , 1998; Zhang et al , 2000; Liu et al , 2011). It also has been observed that embryos in seeds of Podocarpaceae are small in relation to the size of the female gametophyte (Ng, 1992; Ferrandis et al , 2011), and several studies on Podocarpaceae have revealed that varying periods of time are required for seeds to germinate.…”

“…But the required time to relieve dormancy to different plants was different, such as Taxus chinensis var. Mairei about 1 year to finish physiological ripening (Tan 1991, Liu et al 2011, above 60 days for Punica granatum (Zafer et al 2007), 5 weeks for Pterocarya fraxinifolia (Shafii et al 2009). For C. walteri seeds more than 150 days cold stratification is essential to maximize seed germination percentage.…”

“…Aside from these, numerous chemicals have been utilised by different tissue culture scientists to remove contaminations in a variety of bamboo species from various genera (Bejoy et al, 2012;Devi et al, 2012). In this experiment for sterilization, we have applied combination ethanol, Tween 20, Bavistin, Hgcl2 and PPM that showed better results than earlier researchers (Liu et al, 2011;Hu et al, 2011). For in vitro shoot initiation MS medium was used.…”

“…After that, all nodal explants were taken in bottles and washed under running tap water to remove the dust particles. For surface sterilization, eight different treatments were used (table 1) (Liu et al, 2011;Hu et al, 2011). After the sterilization procedure, the explants were inoculated in MS medium containing Sucrose (3%), Myo-inositol (0.1%), agar (0.8%) and PPM (500 µl/l) along with eight different concentrations of hormones for culture initiation (table 3) (Zamora, 1994;Yasodha et al, 1997).…”
