An Amperometric Detector with a Platinum Tubular Electrode for High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: An amperometric detector based on a platinum tubular electrode was constructed from a long narrow-bored platinum tube which was directly connected to the column outlet. The tube is immersed in a vessel containing an electrolyte solution in which a common reference and counter electrodes are also immersed. Only the internal platinum wall is exposed to the electrolyte solution. At this geometrical arrangement, the platinum tube internal wall is nonuniformly polarized so that only a certain length of the tube fro… Show more

“…This fact can be demonstrated by the following three examples from our laboratory: Application of platinum tubular detector developed in our laboratory [31] for the determination of trace amounts of carcinogenic aromatic amines and its metabolites. This very simple device was used for HPLC ED determination of submicromolar concentrations of 1- and 2-aminonaphthalene [32], 1-,2-, 3- and 4-hydroxyphenanthrene [33] 3-, 5-, 6-, and 8-aminoquinoline [34], and 2- and 4-aminobiphenyl and 2- and 4-hydroxybiphenyl [35].…”
