“…Scans were performed at 200 and 800 nm. The UV-Vis spectra recorded in diffuse reflectance (R sample ) mode were transformed using the Kubelka-Munk function, which is based on determination of Kubelka-Munk absorption (K) and scattering (S) coefficients, using equation 8: 44,45 (8) where R ∞ is defined as R sample /R reference , with R reference as the diffuse reflectance value obtained for BaSO 4 using equation 9:…”

“…Indirect optical bandgap values (E gap ; eV) were obtained from a Tauc plot, (F(R ∞ )hv) 1/2 , as a function of photon energy hv, considering the intersection of the linear portion of the curve with the x-axis. 45 For FTIR, the samples were shaped into pellets using potassium bromide and spectra recorded on a PerkinElmer 100 spectrophotometer in the 4000-450 cm -1 range. Elemental composition was determined by XPS.…”

“…The first uses alcohol as solvent [21], while the second uses water [23,24]. For each type of synthesis, pure and MWCNT-doped (4 wt%) sols were produced.…”

“…One motivation to choose the sol-gel process is the possibility of producing large film surfaces, quickly and at reasonable costs, which is a sine qua non condition for the development of easy-to-clean/self-cleaning coatings [3,6,7,10,[19][20][21]. Contrary to aqueous synthesis which allows the production of crystalline anatase at low temperature [23], alcoholic synthesis requires calcination to transform amorphous TiO 2 into anatase. Because TiO 2 films are calcined at around 500°C for anatase crystallisation [21,22] and the MWCNT combustion temperature is around 450°C [2,7,10,[18][19][20], various calcination temperatures of alcoholic samples are tested in this study to optimise TiO 2 crystallisation without degrading MWCNTs.…”

“…TiO 2 has several advantages, such as non-toxicity, chemical stability, and stability to photocorrosion. [1][2][3][4]. High absorbance and the high photoactivity of TiO 2 catalysts were observed upon UV light irradiation [5][6][7].…”
